Police in Kabale have paraded over 40 suspected criminals that have been believed to be among the gangs that have been terrorising residents in the municipality.

The suspects were paraded Wednesday morning after the arrest being made possible through intelligence led operations conducted at yesterday evening under the command of the district police commander, SP Joseph Bakaleke.

Among the paraded suspects is Solomon Musinguzi Erias known as Solo resident of Karugashi cell, Butobere ward, central division.

Musinguzi is believed to be the ringleader of the criminal group, who was apprehended from Bombokya entertainment center in March.

Other suspects apprehended during the operation inclide Martin Niwagaba, Ivan Kata, Joab Musinguzi, Erias Nasasira, Hillary Tumwehe,Yowasi Akandinda and Onesmus Oyinembabazi among others.

Another recent attack was on Tuesday night, when a Uganda Radio Network journalist Amanya Samauel was attacked by criminals as he was coming from town heading back to his home, who was cut and currently he is nursing wounds.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that over 40 criminals were arrested during different operations done by police.

He said among the suspected criminals is one Solomon Musinguzi, who was a ringleader of the criminals, adding that he will be charged with aggravated robbery. He further adds that some the suspected were found with stolen property.

Maate further say that the operations will continue for sanity adding that the suspectd criminals will be reigned to courts of law.

He also called on the locals to be security conscious by not moving alone at night.

“These operations will continue to make sure that we crack down the criminals. I want to caution the public to desist from night movements and also single movements," Maate said.

Gordon Ahibisibwe, a resident, narrated on how he was attacked and robbed on Tuesday night.

He commended police for the operation adding that amongst the suspects, the criminal that attacked him was also arrested.

“It was around 5am when I had disembarked form a bus coming from Kampala,I met two thugs who attacked me with pangas," he said.

"I tried to run away but they caught up with me, they robbed me of everything I had, including my laptop and ATM cards."

Kabale Municipality residents have since last year faced the roughness of criminals attacking them and robbing them.
